I'm having the same issue with my Green Mountain Boxwood topiary that sits right at my front door. We have several other boxwoods and I've never noticed that smell. In fact, we've got a total of about 16, but only the Green Mountain one smells bad. The winter Gem doesn't seem to emit any smell at all.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2891478286629018612.post-24283275992961035812023-05-21T16:17:48.435-05:002023-05-21T16:17:48.435-05:00Here in deer city, you learn to appreciate the fac...Here in deer city, you learn to appreciate the fact that even deer won't eat them. As a recent post on this blog describes, I just finally had enough of mine and now they're gone. The pee smell came occasionally over the years, but after 5 years of drought in Southern California, the odor is overwhelming. Short of pulling them all out, is there anything like enzymes that can be sprayed on to help? I love the breeze, but not the smell of pees.Boxwood Blueshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07828479472191176011noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2891478286629018612.post-63035329326400810152014-05-09T14:50:20.343-05:002014-05-09T14:50:20.343-05:00Yes Penny, luckily they don't ALWAYS smell tha...Yes Penny, luckily they don't ALWAYS smell that bad.ProfessorRoushhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17827625019371233145noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2891478286629018612.post-71603378114710399542014-05-09T14:49:48.128-05:002014-05-09T14:49:48.128-05:00You planted them FOR the smell? Took us a bit to figure out it was the bush (husband named it cat pee bush) and not the neighborhood cats marking. So far we've tolerated it, since it blocks the wind well.Penny Penstemonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/13963987734502429344noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2891478286629018612.post-85011303125121016202014-05-07T07:24:19.577-05:002014-05-07T07:24:19.577-05:00When we were searching for a choice for new evergr...When we were searching for a choice for new evergreens for our front landscaping, I zeroed in on boxwood BECAUSE of the smell. This old house of ours was missing that little fragrance note that I identify with other old houses. I don't mind it ... perhaps this is because I have, in the past, had cats with less than stellar litterbox habits and my nose has learned to deal with it. Our Green Mountain boxwoods, in their third year now, came through this more recent bitterly cold, snowy, windy winter without so much as a crispy twig to be seen. They currently wear lots of new spring growth, and I am very, very happy with our choice. Now they just need to get bigger to be in better scale with their surroundings.Connie in Hartwoodhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09127877285792861166noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-2891478286629018612.post-75500227618938807202014-05-07T01:52:59.833-05:002014-05-07T01:52:59.833-05:00I've never been a fan of boxwoods, and now I c...I've never been a fan of boxwoods, and now I can add one more reason to dislike them to my list.
