  1. So, what does "vd" and "2" stand for?
Thanks for publishing the list of Buck Roses. I have one and it is TOUGH.
Very little black spot, blooms continuously, very ice sized blooms and gets very little care. A winner.

    1. "vd" stands for "very double". "2" stands for moderate blackspot.

  2. Too bad the chart doesnt give zones of hardiness, prdferable Canada zones and the chart is so hard to read.Otherwise good info rarely found. Thanks

  3. Sorry. What looks fine on the page gets squeezed when it's published for some reason I can't figure out. And I only live in one hardiness zone....I can't speak for the others.

    Jeez.

    1. Good morning Dr. Roush! Just wanted to say I enjoy your musings, garden and commentary. Even though I am a tree hugging no -spray gardener from the socialist state of Vermont.😉 A couple of years ago I tracked down a sickly Lillian Gilman baby after reading it’s praise in a Canadian guide to growing roses in the North. Alas, it was rarely to be found they said. The only picture of it I could find online was in your blog. Like Tiny Tim, it did not die! Now two years old it has its first blossoms and is shooting up some ambitious spikes of new growth. Now I see on your site a picture of a bountiful mass of Lillian G. I enjoyed your book. And at your recommendation purchased one then a second book by Henry Mitchell. Also one by Mirabeau Osler. I intended them for winter reading but have plowed through the Mitchell ones. They are so addictive. Thanks for your inspiration. Just saying hi. Robin trunorth@together.net

  4. Robin, thank you so much for the note! I'm glad I could introduce you to Lillian; she is quite a rose!

Thank you for your interest in my blog. I like to meet friends via my blog, so I try to respond if you comment from a valid email address rather than the anonymous noresponse@blogger.com. And thanks again for reading!
